The 10 Best Movie Offerings: Summer 2018

Summer Movie Season essentially goes from April until August. So I had two ideas for this post:

  1. A lengthy overview of each movie coming out, with weeks of research put in and reasonable conclusions drawn, or
  2. A shallow, pandering Top 10 list to play to the surface level moviegoer.

So of course I went with Option 2. Here’s your pandered list everyone:

Honorable Mentions:

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Crazy Rich Asians

Skyscraper

And, without further ado, here’s your 10 best options for air conditioned adventures in 2018:

10 Uncle Drew Basketball players haven’t led a movie in a long time, and I’m hoping Kyrie Irving learned a thing or two about acting from Lebron James when he was playing with him in Cleveland.
9 Super Troopers 2 A long awaited sequel to a beloved comedy. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. These guys are pretty funny and under the radar though, so I’m hoping for the former.
8 Ocean’s 8 Yes! Perfect manipulated placement on my part. The top level talent is killer here, so if this movie can be half as cool as the Steven Soderbergh film, then it’ll be pretty entertaining.
7 A Quiet Place Married couple John Krasinski (also director) and Emily Blunt are here to scare the hell out of you. The early buzz on this film is great, which means put on some sleeves to protect your forearms from being grabbed from something super scary onscreen.
6 The First Purge While you haven’t been paying attention, the Purge franchise, much like the Apes Franchise, continues to grow steadily in prestige and reliable entertainment. The message of these movies fits in very nicely with our times, and I for one can’t wait for this prequel.
5 The Incredibles 2 A sequel to a beloved Pixar movie? Also has positive and negative results. However, the Incredibles has a stronger foundation than the crappier sequels, so I have high hopes with everyone including the creative force behind the first back again.
4 Sicario 2: Soldado I can’t believe Sicario spawned a franchise, but that is a welcome development, cause that movie was fascinating. The sequel looks like it returns the most interesting parts, especially Benicio del Toro’s character who lives in the gray area of drug trafficking on the US-Mexico border.
3 Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Mr. Rogers helped raise young Americans for years and years. And this documentary about him appears to show how much the man mirrors the persona, which is well deserved praise and notoriety for a great, lovely man.
2 The Untitled Deadpool Sequel I could have called this Deadpool 2, but I like this title better. The first was such a welcome surprise and ushered in the R rated superhero film. The writers and Ryan Reynolds are back to help hopefully deliver meta commentary and superheroing in spades from the Merc with the Mouth.
1 Avengers: Infinity War Whoever though the first Avengers contained too many superheroes will NOT like this one. We’ll see if the Russo Brothers can handle so many characters and all the pressure of Marvel building up to this climax in its movie history. But they have directed some of the best TV sitcoms and 2 of Marvel’s best films, and I’m pretty sure they’ll find a way to make all of these talented people shine in some way. Every comic book fan will want to see this movie.
